The visual impact of a proposed development upon its surrounding landscape, wind energy or otherwise, is an increasingly sensitive planning issue. The effective analysis of this impact and how it is communicated to stakeholders is paramount to achieving planning consent.
Macro Works is a leading consultancy firm specialising in visual impact analysis and visual impact graphics. Established in 1999 at the beginning of the renewable energy boom and prior to the construction boom in Ireland, we have considerable experience of both commercial wind energy developments (onshore and offshore) and civil engineering projects.
We host a dedicated team of professionals to fulfill the key roles within our business, namely: photography, geographic information systems (GIS), photo-real graphics, 3D architectural modelling and printing.
As well as our critical role in the EIA process for 100+ commercial developments, we remain active at a strategic level where possible.
Studies with which Macro Works has been involved
- We played an active role in the drafting of the DOE led Guidelines for Wind Energy Development in Ireland.
- Our GIS analysis of the full compliment of National Spatial Datasets was integral to the compilation of numerous County level Landscape Character and Sensitivity Assessments. (These studies were prepared in cooperation with MosArt Ltd)
- Failte Ireland requested Macro Works to study the feasibility for an automated system of referral of planning applications from Local Authorites using a proposed national map of landscape character and scenic landscapes.
- Our photo simulations were central to the SEI study to survey the public attitude to wind energy development in the landscape. This study subsequently formed the basis of a similar study by Failte Ireland in respect of tourists visiting Ireland.
- Our photo simulations were central to a similar study conducted by the University of Delaware - Centre for Carbon-free Power Integration to survey the Public Acceptance of Offshore Wind Power Projects on the East Coast of the United States.
- Macro Works prepared a Coford (Council for Forest Research and Development) funded published study to research and identify the 'Computer Software Requirements in The Forest Industry' in Ireland.
